Introduction

Aims

Explanation and solving quadratics.

Different types of solutions (an explanation of different types of roots)

Biquadratic equations

Quadratic equations.

INTRODUCTION

This unit focuses on quadratic equations. After an initial explanation we look at their graphs and work out the general formula which can be used to solve them. A "explanation" follows which describes the different possible combination of roots which can be obtained. We also look at how to solve biquadratic equations and different exercises and problems involving these equations are completed during the unit.

AIMS
  • To recognise quadratic equations.
  • To solve quadratic equations with an unknown both graphically and numerically.
  • To explain the different possible combinations of roots which can be obtained from these equations.
  • To recognise and solve biquadratic equations.
  • To apply the different ways of solving these equations to some practical problems.
